Shared goals and passion for the Bannau Brycheiniog

SHARED goals and the passion for the Bannau Brycheiniog was evident at the annual tourism conference last week.

Brecon Beacon Tourism and Bannau Brycheiniog National Park Authority brought together more than 80 businesses and tourist providers at Theatr Brycheiniog.

The theme for the event was Day to Stay, with delegates discovering more about each other’s businesses and how they can work together to encourage visitors to stay over night in the Bannau Brycheiniog rather than just of the day.

Sustainable Tourism Manager for Bannau Brycheiniog National Park Authority Richard Tyler said there is so much to discover in the National Park.

“As well as the impressive mountains, there are so many hidden treasures in the Bannau Brycheiniog for visitors to enjoy,” he said. “The rich culture and heritage of the Park is reflected by many of the tourism providers, so visitors can enjoy the unique landscape and finding out more about the history of the area.

“This event helped inspire the businesses and community groups present to think about different ways of enhancing the overall visitor experience.”

With 75% of visitors spending only a day in the National Park, the conference offered businesses the chance to discuss the ideas and tools needed to encourage visitors to stay overnight and take advantage of what the area has to offer.

Laura Thomas, Executive Director of Bannau Brycheiniog Tourism, said the annual tourism conference was a great success.

She said: “We ensured we had a good range of speakers and topics covered. It was great to see so many new businesses in attendance and plenty of networking happening throughout the session. It was an inspiring and productive way to start the season off.”

Mr Tyler was pleased to see representatives from across the whole of the Park at the event.

“We were delighted to welcome so many tourism businesses at the conference,” he said. “It was exciting to see delegates discussing their shared goals and pledging to work together to promote the Bannau Brycheiniog as a destination. Communication is key to its success and the destination is looking forward to welcoming a predicted 5 million visitors in 2019.”

The conference was organised jointly by Bannau Brycheiniog National Park Authority and Bannau Brycheiniog Tourism on behalf of the Bannau Brycheiniog Sustainable Destination Partnership.
