Within the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park we have a wealth of built heritage with a wide range of important architecture, including Norman castles and medieval farmhouses, concentrations of 17th and 18th century buildings within the main settlements, and a scatter of very fine rural buildings that often retain original features. The Brecon Beacons National Park has nearly 2000 Listed Buildings, buildings of national importance, and 4 Conservation Areas, nationally important areas of special architectural and historic interest, as well as many thousands of buildings and numerous settlements that are regionally or locally important.
The Bannau Brycheiniog National Park Authority plays a crucial role in conserving our historic buildings, townscapes and settlements, by ensuring that new developments in our historic areas or alterations to our historic buildings are sustainable and in keeping, and that no important information about the past in lost. This is not to prevent change but to ensure that the important features of our historic buildings and the distinctive character of our settlements is preserved for future generations to enjoy.
